PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyphenol extract containing no citric acid, having a well-defined polyphenol composition, and having a high polyphenol content to provide a functional composition, a prophylactic agent for osteoporosis, a saccharide-digesting enzyme inhibitor for treating and preventing obesity and diabetes each using the polyphenol extract and to provide a food composition, a food composition for specified health use, a quasi-drug composition, and a pharmaceutical composition.
SOLUTION: According to the polyphenol extract production method, a polyphenol extract containing no citric acid and high concentration of a polyphenol can be obtained by bringing ume plum vinegar into contact with a styrene/divinylbenzene-based synthetic adsorbent resin, subjecting the styrene/divinylbenzene-based synthetic adsorbent resin to elution treatment with an aqueous solvent, and concentrating the eluate. Further, the new functional composition of the polyphenol extract obtained from ume plum vinegar can be utilized in a food composition for diabetes prevention, a food composition for specified health use, a quasi-drug composition, and a pharmaceutical composition.
