PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To analyze walking characteristics comprehensively grasped by various walking parameters which influence a gait, by using an acceleration sensor portable in a daily life.SOLUTION: A method for analyzing walking characteristics includes: measuring an acceleration speed in walking with an acceleration sensor for a plurality of subjects； extracting a plurality of acceleration speed principal components by time division and principal component analysis of measured acceleration speed data； and calculating the principal component scores thereof. Furthermore, the method includes: extracting a plurality of walking principal components for a plurality of pedestrians by walking parameter principal component analysis including walking factors measured by walking marks； calculating the principal component scores as walking characteristic scores； and acquiring a relational expression between the principal component scores of the plurality of acceleration speed principal components, and the walking characteristic scores. On the other hand, the method includes: calculating the acceleration speed principal component scores from the acceleration speed data in walking of an arbitrary subject； and calculating the walking characteristic scores from the principal component scores, using the relational expression.
