The present invention relates to a cosmetic method for treating human body odors, in particular axillary odors, comprising applying, to human keratin fibers, a composition containing, in a cosmetically acceptable medium, at least one 4-(3-ethoxy-4- hydroxyphenyl)alkylketone or 2-ethoxy 4-hydroxyalkylphenol compound having the following formula (I), where: R is a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated (alkyl or alkenyl) C1-C18 hydrocarbon radical R is a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated (alkyl or alkenyl) C1-C18 hydrocarbon radical, which is optionally substituted by a hydroxyl group and C-X is C=O or CH-OH. The invention also relates to the cosmetic use of at least one compound of formula (I) as a deodorant active agent.
