The present invention relates to a method of controlling lighting for a water tank. The method of controlling the lighting for the water tank, which uses a water tank filled with water at a predetermined level, a lighting unit fixedly installed on an indoor ceiling where the water tank is disposed to irradiate light of a predetermined intensity toward a water surface of the water tank, a light receiving sensor unit for receiving the light irradiated to and reflected from the water surface, and a height adjustment unit connected to a predetermined motor and one side of the lighting unit to lift or lower the lighting unit by using a driving force of the motor, includes the steps of: irradiating the light toward the water surface of the water tank through the lighting unit at a position spaced upward from the water tank by a predetermined height； receiving the light irradiated to the water surface by using the light receiving sensor unit every predetermined period to measure a light amount of the received light； and adjusting a height of the lighting unit by lifting or lowering the lighting unit by a predetermined unit distance when the measured light amount is out of a predetermined normal range.
