The invention relates to an apparatus for restraining and positioning an animal, the apparatus including a dynamic race having an entrance, an exit and a passage therebetween. The passage has an upwardly open work area and is formed by elastically flexible opposed walls able to be brought together to restrain an animal therebetween, the walls being capable of relative movement for rotation of the restrained animal about the animals vertebral axis, thereby positioning the animal to expose a selected aspect of the animal to the work area.
