PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical material having high strength, high safety and hemostatic effect, and inexpensive to be manufactured, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: A first hydrophilic polymer compound solution is prepared by dissolving a hydrophilic polymer compound having a molecular weight of 8,000 or more and 300,000 or less in an aqueous solution of a polyhydric alcohol or a derivative thereof at a predetermined concentration. A cross-linking agent is mixed with the first hydrophilic polymer compound solution to cause a cross-linking reaction. The first hydrophilic polymer compound solution is stirred to generate bubbles. The first hydrophilic polymer compound solution is dried. The first hydrophilic polymer compound solution is molded into the first sheet. A second hydrophilic polymer compound solution is prepared by dissolving the hydrophilic polymer compound in the aqueous solution at a concentration different from the predetermined concentration. A cross-linking agent is mixed with the second hydrophilic polymer compound solution to cause a cross-linking reaction. The second hydrophilic polymer compound solution is molded into a second sheet. The first sheet and the second sheet are laminated in layers to obtain a medical material.
