The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating autoimmune thyroid diseases or a food composition for alleviating or improving autoimmune thyroid diseases including an extract of nelumbo nuciferaGaerth as an effective component. The composition of the present invention significantly inhibits formation of hyaluronan, differentiation of fat, and inflammation, thereby effectively treating or improving various pathological conditions caused by thyroid autoantibody, for example thyroid eyeball illness.본 발명은 연방(nelumbo nucifera Gaerth) 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 자가면역성 갑상선 질환(Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases)의 예방 또는 치료용 약제학적 조성물 또는 자가면역성 갑상선 질환의 완화 또는 개선용 식품조성물에 관한 것이다.본 발명의 조성물은 히알루로난(Hyaluronan)의 생성, 지방의 분화 및 염증반응을 유의하게 억제함으로써 갑상선 자가항체에 의해 발생하는 다양한 병리적 상태, 예를 들어 갑상선 안구병증을 효과적으로 치료 또는 개선할 수 있다.
