For example, methods and materials for using live transgenic non-human animals (e.g., non-human mammals) having somatic and germline cells that include nucleic acid (e.g., a transgene) having a promoter sequence operably linked to a nucleic acid sequence encoding a NIS polypeptide to perform radiotracer imaging to monitor pathological processes, disease progression, or therapeutic responses in vivo over time are provided.
