The invention concerns a method for determining a set of bandages appropriate for a particular injury, comprising the provision of a decision tree to determine the type of injury on the basis of visual observation of an injured person (symptoms)； determine the action to be taken on the basis of the type of injury identified； determine the requisite dressing material on the basis of the action identified； and determine, on the basis of the requisite dressing material thus identified, at least one set of bandages which comprises at least the requisite dressing material. The invention further concerns a device to go through the steps of the method, a set of bandages for use with this method, and a first-aid kit.
