PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exothermic composition to which antiseptic and antifungal performance can be added and which has good coating performance.SOLUTION: There is provided an exothermic composition containing following components (A) to (D) and water, where pH at 25°C of slurry adjusted so that the content of water is 62 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the component (A) is 10.8 or more. The (A) is an oxidizable metal. The (B) is a carbon component. The (C) is a weak acidic alkali metal salt. The (D) is carboxymethyl cellulose having a weight average molecular weight Mw of 150,000 to 800,000 and a degree of etherification of 0.55 to 1 or a salt thereof of 0.35 to 1.8 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the component (A).
