The base unit (424) may include one or both of a printed circuit board (5106) and a pressure sensor (5108). The outer shell (4201) has a reservoir (644) for the aerosol-forming composition, a heater (634), a reservoir (644) and an aerosol formation between the heater (634) and the heater terminals (649a, b). It may be attached to a cartridge (604) containing a liquid transport element (636) configured for transport of the composition.
