System and method for detecting a leakage of a nutrient from soil is provided.Thenutrient is applied by a nutrient applicator associated with a work vehicle.Themethod includes receiving, by one or more processors, sensor signals from atleastone sensor coupled to a nutrient applicator that observes a temperature of thesoiland generates sensor signals based on the observation. The method includesdetermining, by the one or more processors, whether the observed temperatureofthe soil exceeds a pre-defined threshold temperature. The method includesgenerating, by the one or more processors, one or more notifications to ahuman-machine interface that the nutrient has leaked from the soil based ontheobserved temperature exceeding the pre-defined threshold temperature.
