PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer that exhibits high setting properties and high re-styling properties and yet has a wide degree of freedom for formulations such as a spray, mist, wax and the like, and a composition for a cosmetic that comprises the copolymer.SOLUTION: The copolymer comprises a constituting unit corresponding to a vinyl monomer (A) represented by general formula (1) and a constituting unit corresponding to a vinyl monomer (B) based on [an alkyl (meth)acrylate or an N-alkyl-(meth)acrylamide] represented by a specific formula, does not dissolve in water lower than 30°C and has a heat absorption initiation temperature between -25°C and 40°C when heated from a low temperature. The composition for a cosmetic comprises the copolymer.
