PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel organopolysiloxane which is volatile, has low-temperature stability, brings about excellent gloss, and has a property excellent in compatibility with an ultraviolet absorber, a process for producing the same, and a cosmetic containing the organopolysiloxane.SOLUTION: The organopolysiloxane is, for example, 1, 2-bis(pentamethyldisiloxy)ethane of the formula produced by hydrolyzing 1, 2-bis(chlorodimethylsilyl)ethane or cyclic 1, 1, 3, 3, 6, 6, 8, 8-octamethyl-2, 7-dioxy-1, 3, 6, 8-tetrasilacyclodecane.
