A self-service eyewear order kiosk is disclosed. The customer can order eyewear at the kiosk without the assistance of a retail salesperson or optical specialist. Sample eyewear frames are available at the kiosk for customers to try on and select the desired frame style. The kiosk user interface accepts customer eyewear data such as selected frame style codes and optical prescriptions. The kiosk also includes a camera that is used to capture customer images. The image is used to calculate at least one customer eyewear parameter, such as pupil distance. Patterned glasses or other reference devices are held on the customer's face to provide a reference for eyewear parameter calculations.
