PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that it cannot be obtained a confocal image with uniform brightness because an image in a center section within a scanning area is darker than that in a peripheral section.SOLUTION: A scanning type confocal endoscope system is configured to generate a confocal image by: using pulse light to two-dimensionally scan a subject in a spiral manner receiving fluorescence excited by the pulse light via a confocal pinhole and detecting an image signal assigning a pixel position in a two-dimensional pixel array to the image signal detected, according to detection timing of the image signal, where the pixel position is located at a position having a correspondence relationship with a scanning position in a region scanned by the pulse light and arranging each image signal at the assigned pixel position. The system is configured to control emission timing of the pulse light so as to: generate a pixel with no image signal arranged when each image signal is arranged at the pixel position having the correspondence relationship with the scanning position in the region scanned by the pulse light and increase a ratio of the pixels with no image signals arranged toward a center of the two-dimensional pixel array.
