The present invention relates to a vaccine for prevention of viremia induced by Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) infection. More specifically, it relates to a vaccine that is protecting against infections with the European PRRSV type strain and derivatives thereof, as well as against infections with isolates where normal vaccines, based on the European type strain do not offer an efficient protection. The invention relates further to methods for preparing said vaccine, and methods to protect pigs from reproductive and respiratory syndrome, with the use of this vaccine.
