An electronic blood pressure meter having cuff-pressure detection means (2) for detecting the pressure in a cuff (1), cuff-pressure-variation-rate calculation means (14) for calculating the rate of variation in the cuff pressure based ON a detection signal from the cuff pressure detection means (2), pulse wave determination means (16) for calculating a difference between cuff pressures, which are pressures detected at extraction intervals separated by predetermined intervals and from detection signals repeatedly detected at predetermined extraction intervals by the cuff-pressure detection means (2) and determining whether the cuff pressures is a component of a pulse wave component by comparing the calculated difference and a standard value and standard value change means (15) for changing the standard value according to the rate of variation in the cuff pressure calculated by the cuff-pressure-variation-rate calculation means (14). The pulse wave determination means (16) applies the standard value before a change only to a single pulse or a predetermined time period immediately after a change of the standard value.
