An optical pressure sensor assembly that can be used with existing catheters and imaging systems. The pressure sensor is compatible with atherectomy and cross-occlusion catheters, and intravascular pressure measurements at various locations are required to determine the therapeutic effect. The pressure sensor can employ an optical pressure measurement mechanism using an optical interferometer, and can be integrated with existing imaging modalities such as OCT. The optical pressure sensor assembly includes a movable membrane that deflects in response to intravascular pressure, an optical fiber that transmits light to the movable membrane, receives light reflected or scattered from the movable membrane and returns into the fiber, and the movable membrane.
