Die Erfindung beschreibt die Verwendung eines anorganischen Stoffes, der in Kontakt mit einem wässrigen Medium Wasserstoff-Kationen bildet, die eine antimikrobielle Wirkung auslösen. Die Wasserstoffkationen führen dabei zu einer Absenkung des pH-Wertes des wässrigen Mediums. Besonders wirksam sind dabei auf Molybdän und Wolfram basierende Stoffe, die oberflächlich oxidiert sind. Auch Verbundstoffe auf Basis von Mo-Ag, Mo-Cu, W-Ag und W-Cu zeigen eine hohe antimikrobielle Wirksamkeit.The invention describes the use of an inorganic substance which forms hydrogen cations in contact with an aqueous medium that trigger an anti-microbial effect. The hydrogen cations selected lead to a lowering of the pH of the aqueous medium. Particularly effective are molybdenum and tungsten based materials that are superficially oxidized. Also composite materials based on Mo-Ag, Mo, Cu, W-Ag-Cu and W exhibit high antimicrobial activity.
