To provide a surgical microscope and method for observing an object within an observation area during an operation, and a retrofit kit for the surgical microscope, which solve the problem in which solution means by conventional arts has an observation direction lacking flexibility, it is likely to need pre-operation planning, and it is likely to be expensive and bulky.SOLUTION: A surgical microscope of the present invention overcomes a disadvantage by at least one optical stand for variably deflecting an observation axis of an optical observation assembly toward an optical visual axis pointing at an observation area direction. The optical stand includes at least one optical beam deflector, and is arranged between the optical observation assembly and the observation area.
