The use of dianhydrogalactitol provides a novel therapeutic modality for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Dianhydrogalactitol acts as an alkylating agent for DNA that causes N7 methylation. Dianhydrogalactitol is effective in inhibiting cancer stem cell growth and active against tumors that are refractory to temozolomide； this drug acts independently of the MGMT repair mechanism.
