The present invention relates to a method for obtaining mesoporous biosilica from rice husks, which comprises the following steps: (a) obtaining rice husk particles by grinding and sieving the rice husks; (b) adding an acid solution to the particles obtained in step (a); and (c) extracting biosilica by irradiating the solution obtained in step (b) in microwaves. The present invention also relates to the use of the mesoporous biosilica obtained using said method, and in particular to the use of said biosilica to obtain metallic nanomaterials.
