A drug injection device includes a cartridge, and the cartridge includes a container and a fluid path. The fluid path is for delivering an injection fluid from the container to the patient's injection site. The fluid path has a needle, and the sterilization state of the fluid path is maintained. The drive chain delivers the needle to the injection point, but the drive chain is only mechanically connected to the fluid path to operate the needle. The mechanical connection allows the needle to operate while keeping the fluid path sterile.
