A surgical stapling apparatus includes a staple cartridge assembly, an anvilassemblyoperatively associated with the staple cartridge assembly, and a surgicalbuttress releasablycoupled to the staple cartridge assembly or the anvil assembly. The staplecartridge assemblyincludes a tissue facing surface having staple retaining slots definedtherein, each stapleretaining slot housing a staple therein, and a circular knife disposedradially inwardly of thetissue facing surface. The anvil assembly includes an anvil member including atissue facingsurface and an anvil shaft extending from the anvil member. The surgicalbuttress has a circularconfiguration defining a central aperture therethrough. The surgical buttressincludes an innerconcentric portion having a therapeutic coating disposed thereon and an outerconcentricportion free of the therapeutic coating.
