The present invention provides a method for the treatment or prophylaxis of an ectoparasitic infestation, the method comprising the step of: contacting an external surface of an animal in need thereof with an effective amount of a berberine or an analogue thereof, and/or contacting the immediate environment of an animal in need thereof with an effective amount of a berberine or an analogue thereof. The invention is useful in treating or preventing, inter alia, lice infestations of agriculturally important animals such poultry, sheep and cows. The berberine or analogue thereof may be applied in the form of a power, or in solution by spraying, or by other means.La présente invention concerne une méthode pour le traitement ou la prophylaxie d'une infestation ectoparasitaire, la méthode comprenant l'étape de mise en contact d'une surface externe d'un animal en ayant besoin avec une quantité efficace d'une berbérine ou d'un analogue de celle-ci, et/ou la mise en contact de l'environnement immédiat d'un animal en ayant besoin avec une quantité efficace d'une berbérine ou d'un analogue de celle-ci. L'invention se révèle utile pour traiter ou prévenir, entre autres, les infestations par les poux d'animaux présentant une grande valeur agricole tels que la volaille, les moutons et les vaches.
