The invention is in the field of medical treatments and relates to the treatment of cancer, in particular multiple myeloma (MM). Even more in particular it provides means and methods for the improved treatment of certain subgroups of MM patients, more in particular subjects with a poor prognosis. In a particular embodiment, the invention provides a method of treatment wherein subjects with a poor prognosis are selected and treated with a proteasome inhibitor such as Bortezomib. The invention further provides means and methods for identifying subjects with a poor prognosis. More in particular, the invention provides a composition comprising a proteasome inhibitor for use in the treatment of a subject with multiple myeloma wherein the subject has been diagnosed with an amp1q chromosomal aberration.L'invention se rapporte au domaine des traitements médicaux et porte sur le traitement du cancer, en particulier du myélome multiple (MM). Encore plus spécifiquement, l'invention concerne des moyens et des méthodes permettant d'améliorer le traitement de certains sous-groupes de patients atteints de MM, plus particulièrement des sujets présentant un mauvais pronostic. Selon un mode de réalisation particulier, l'invention concerne une méthode de traitement selon laquelle des sujets présentant un mauvais pronostic sont sélectionnés et traités avec un inhibiteur de protéasome, tel que le bortézomib. En outre, l'invention concerne des moyens et des méthodes d'identification de sujets présentant un mauvais pronostic. Plus particulièrement, l'invention concerne une composition comprenant un inhibiteur de protéasome destiné à être utilisé dans le traitement d'un sujet atteint de myélome multiple, une aberration chromosomique amp1q ayant été diagnostiquée chez ledit sujet.
