The present invention provides a programmable universal cell receptor (PUCR) comprising a catalytic antibody region, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic domain. To program the receptor for specificity to a molecule of interest, the PUCRs disclosed herein may be conjugated to a specific agent. Nucleic acids encoding such PUCRs encoding and PUCR expressing cells are also provided.
