A method and apparatus using a magnetic field 6 of optimal frequency, intensity and duration to carry out pest control by delivering sufficient energy to destroy or incapacitate a pest without damaging plant matter. The magnetic field may provide induction heating sufficient to heat part or all of the target pest. The induction heating may operate at radio frequencies that may be 0-1 GHz or 1-400 MHz. The magnetic field strength may be 0-100 T, preferably on the order of millitesla. The apparatus may include a high frequency magnetic field generator 15 attached to an electrical power supply 13 that may shut down if unexpected inductance is detected, the generator may comprise one or more nozzles. The apparatus may include a propulsion device 10. The apparatus may include a magnetic lens to focus the field on a kill zone. The apparatus may include shielding against electromagnetic noise.
