The grinding module 60 for converting bone stock into bone chips includes a sheath 34 adapted to releasably attach to the base module 32. The sheath has an inlet opening 152 through which bone stock is introduced into the sheath and an outlet opening 96 through which bone chips are ejected from the sheath. The grinding element 170 is moveably arranged in the shell between the inlet and outlet openings to convert the bone stock into bone chips. The envelope includes a base 62 adapted to detachably attach to the base module. The base includes a discharge opening and a lid 126 detachably attached thereto. The lid includes an inlet opening of the shell.
