PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a water-absorbable resin wherein there is no discoloration even immediately after the manufacture, and the discoloration is controlled even when stored at a room temperature and further under a high temperature and high humidity for a long term.SOLUTION: In any manufacturing step in a manufacturing method of a water-absorbable resin using an &alpha,&beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid as an essential monomer, the manufacturing method of a water-absorbable resin comprises: existence of 0.001-6 pts.wt. of a metallic chelating agent to 100 pts.wt. of the &alpha,&beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid and addition of 0.001-6 pts.wt. of a reducing agent or an oxidizing agent to 100 pts.wt. of the &alpha,&beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid before and/or during drying of a gelatinous substance containing the water- absorbable resin obtained from polymerization.COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
