PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cultivating a papaya by which the fruit production of uniform and high quality can stably and surely be carried out in a greenhouse and prolongation of harvesting can be made with the same individual. SOLUTION: Hydroponics of a female plant seedling or an ambisexual plant seedling obtained by carrying out shoot tip culture of a dwarf species of the papaya are carried out in a culture medium having good water and air permeability by isolating each individual from a soil bed in the greenhouse. Thereby, the papaya is cultivated. When the tree thus grown reaches the roof of the greenhouse, the tree is cut back from the main stem base and the newly grown lateral shoot can subsequently be subjected to the hydroponics in the same culture medium in the greenhouse to hasten the reharvesting time as compared with that in new transplantation of the seedling. As a result, harvesting from the same individual can be carried out over a long period.
