Implantable medical devices (IMDs) such as cardiac pacemakers may include sensors and electrodes. In some cases, the IMD may include electronic devices for determining the heart rate of the patient's heart using those sensors. The electronic device delivers pacing pulses to the heart at a first energy level when the heart rate is below a threshold and paces the heart at an enhanced energy level when the heart rate is above the threshold.
