A surgical stapling apparatus includes a tool assembly, at least one surgicalbuttress, anda resilient, porous material. The tool assembly includes a cartridge assemblyand an anvilassembly pivotably coupled to the cartridge assembly. The cartridge assemblyincludes a firsttissue facing surface defining staple retaining slots. The anvil assemblyincludes a second tissuefacing surface defining staple pockets for forming staples expelled from thestaple retaining slotsof the cartridge assembly. The at least one surgical buttress is releasablydisposed on at least oneof the first and second tissue facing surfaces. The resilient, porous materialis releasablydisposable between the first and second tissue facing surfaces and in contactwith the at least onesurgical buttress. The resilient, porous material is configured to expel aliquid therefrom uponcompression thereof by an approximation of the cartridge assembly and theanvil assembly.
