The system and methods include the steps of presenting an auditory stimulus of a duration of less than one second to the person spreading the power of the stimulus across a frequency range in alternating regions of high and low intensity including in the stimulus at least two regions of high intensity and measuring the transient evoked electrical response of the brain of the person.
