The invention relates to methods of treating stroke comprising administration of a VLA-4 antagonist to a subject after the onset of the stroke, e.g., ischemic stroke (e.g., acute ischemic stroke) or hemorrhagic stroke (e.g., intracerebral hemorrhage), subarachnoid hemorrhage, or traumatic brain injury. Kits and articles of manufacture are also described herein.
