Embodiments of the invention are related to devices and methods for respiration therapy, amongst other things. In an embodiment, the invention includes a system for providing respiration therapy to a patient, including an implantable device comprising a chronically implanted respiration sensor, the respiration sensor configured to generate a signal indicative of respiration rate of the patient and an external interface device in communication with the implantable device, the external interface device comprising an output device and configured to deliver respiration therapy to the patient, the respiration therapy comprising one or more breathing prompts generated by the output device. In an embodiment, the invention includes a method for providing respiration therapy to a patient.
