The present invention relates to the use of canthaxanthin for improving egg production. More particularly the invention relates to the use of canthaxanthin for increasing egg mass. It has been observed surprisingly that the dietary canthaxanthin supplementation of layer hen diet improved production parameters. Canthaxanthin (per unit of dietary inclusion) increased layer hen feed intake by 0.32% per ppm FCR by 0.24% per ppm egg production by 0.28% per ppm and egg weight by 0.17% per ppm compared to control diet without canthaxanthin. Egg mass was significantly improved by 0.47% per ppm. These results revealed that canthaxanthin can enhance the productivity of egg farms in addition to yolk coloration antioxidant effect enhanced reproduction and immune modulation.
