The compositions of the invention are novel benzothiazol-based pyridinium compounds with potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitory activities. Such compositions can be used, for example, to treat Alzheimers Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The compounds of the invention can also be used to prevent or treat the neurotoxic effects of nerve agents (e.g., sarin gas or insecticides).
