An arrangement for non-destructive testing of electrically conducting workpieces contains an electromagnet system movable over the workpiece with series pole pieces connected together on the side away from the workpiece by a weakly magnetic shorting piece. Cooling medium channels (45,46,47,4) feed, e.g. internal cooling bodies, for the pole pieces and the inner surfaces of magnetic coils (11). A cap (19), closing off the system base, has recesses (23) for the pole piece transducer coil systems which have magnetic field concentrators (27). USE/ADVANTAGE - Signal-to-noise ratio of electrodynamic ultrasonic transducer improved. Easily adapted for all types of testing.
