A cage (10) for housing laboratory animals, said cage comprising a basin (11) and a lid (12), which is removable and switchable between a first closed position in which it is positioned over said basin (11), in which it prevents the inner space (14) delimited by said basin (11) from being accessed, and a second open position in which the access to said inner space (14) is possible, the free light or minimum height available for the animals conforming with the housing regulations.
