Various systems and methods for non-invasively monitoring and treating a medical condition of interest via percutaneous stimulation of the target nerve are described. For example, a subject can be monitored for improvement in a medical condition, which corresponds to a decrease in the threshold level at which a sensory or motor response is triggered upon stimulation relative to a baseline level. In addition, the percutaneous stimulation of the nerves may also cure the condition. Both surveillance and therapy can be performed in a non-invasive manner with virtually no painful response through the electrical nerve stimulation of the target nerve, where the stimulus is delivered from the electrode located on the non-wrinkly skin surface.
