PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing Zanthoxylum schinitolium extract or a fraction thereof and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to ensure excellent antioxidation and whitening effects without irritation and side effect.CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for whitening contains 0.01-10.0 wt% of Zanthoxylum schinitolium extract as an active ingredient. The Zanthoxylum schinitolium extract is prepared from leaves, branches, or fruits of Zanthoxylum schinitolium using water, anhydrous or hydrous alcohol of C1-C4, hexane, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, butanol, or 1,3-butylene glycol at 60-80 deg.
