A fishing system (1) particularly for catching fish or crab on a trotline is disclosed. The system includes a primary baited fishing line (2) and at least one catching means (8). The catching means (8) including a collector such as a net is suspended from the primary line (2) in the body of water being fished. The catching means (8) is directed along the primary line (2) such as by a boat (9). The primary line (2) passes through the catching means (8) which effects release of the target species from the line into a net or cage.
