PURPOSE:To obtain an araceous plant excellent in fresh weight, root number, leaf number, plant height, mottled form, etc., by culturing and cultivating the araceous plant in the presence of bromocresol green known as an acid base indicator. CONSTITUTION:An araceous plant (especially preferably Colocasia esculenta Schott of the genus Colocasia, Amorphophalus konjak K. Koch of the genus Amorphophalus, Scindapsus aureus Engl. of the genus Scindapsus, etc.) is cultured and cultivated in the presence of bromocresol green expressed by the formula. Furthermore, the resultant seedling bodies obtained by a culturing technique of tissues is carried out in the presence of the bromocresol green as this culturing. That is germ-free sections of the tissues of the araceous plant are subjected to tissue culture and the obtained seedling bodies are cultured in a bromocresol green-containing culture medium. This method is extremely effective in potting ornamental foliage plants, such as the Scindapsus aureus Engl., producing pot-plants and simultaneously producing uniform products in a relatively large amount.
