PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a novel metabolism promoter having, as an active ingredient, epicatechin gallate exhibiting metabolism accentuation action a slow muscle formation promoter containing the metabolism promoter a mitochondrion uncoupling protein gene expression promoter containing the metabolism promoter a hormone sensitive lipase gene expression promoter containing the metabolism promoter and a slow muscle-type myosin heavy chain gene expression promoter containing the metabolism promoter.SOLUTION: A metabolism promoter is characterized by containing epicatechin gallate as an active ingredient.
