This invention relates to biocompatible and resorbable melt derived glass composition comprising: SiO2 60-70 weight-%, Na2O 5-20 weight-%, CaO 5-25 weight-%, MgO 0-10 weight-%, P2O5 0.5-5 weight-%, B2O3 0-15 weight-%, Al2O3 0-5 weight-%, Li2O 0-1 weight-%, and comprising less than 0.5 weight-% potassium. This invention also relates to biocompatible and resorbable glass fibres manufactured from the glass compositions of the invention. This invention further relates to medical devices comprising fibres of the invention. This invention still further relates to use of the compositions of the invention for the manufacture of glass fibre and use of the fibres of the invention for the manufacture of medical devices.
