The guiding aid has a device that is carried by an animal. A transmitter and a receiver are provided in the guiding aid, and a transducer is provided in the device for generating high frequency commands. The aid measures the distance between a stockman and a guided animal. An acoustic signal is outputted by the aid in reference to the distance, where the signal lies within the acoustic range of the man. An independent claim is also included for a method for guiding the animal.
