Antiviral jak inhibitors useful in the treatment or prevention of retroviral infections and other viral infections are described compounds, compositions, and methods for the treatment and prevention of HIV infection. The compounds are inhibitors of pyrrol [2,3-b] pyridines and pyrrol [2,3-b] pyridine. Combinations of these jak inhibitors and additional antiretroviral compounds such as nrti, nnrti, integrase inhibitors, entry inhibitors, protease inhibitors, and the like are also described. In one embodiment, the combinations include a combination of adenine nucleoside antiviral agent, cytosine, tyridine, and guanines, optionally in combination with combinations of at least one additional antiviral agent that works via a mechanism other than the nucleoside analog.
