The lower tool of at least one of the modules is a spur tool formed of a relatively thin and essentially circular disk. The plane of the upper surface of this spur tool extends below the plane of the lower surface of a lower tool of the other module, the 10 cutting action resulting from the interaction between the spur tool and that tool. The external diameter D(l) of the spur tool is smaller than a root diameter Dp of the tool under which it is arranged. The circumference of the root diameter Dp of the lower tool of the second module overlaps 15 the external circumference of diameter D(l) of the spur tool 1 on a defined length X. The cutting machine may further comprise a sharpening device with a sharpening block that can be brought from a passive position to an active position and vice-versa.
